A dryer that runs but leaves clothes damp wastes time and energy. Fix My Appliance GTA repairs clothes dryers for homeowners across Toronto and the GTA, and explains what is wrong in plain language before any repair begins.
Dryer problems we diagnose
- Dryer not heating, or producing very little heat
- Clothes taking much longer than usual to dry
- Dryer not starting or stopping partway through
- Squealing, thumping or rumbling noises
- Drum not turning while the dryer runs
Dryer not heating or taking too long
Clean the lint filter before every load and check that the vent hose is not crushed or kinked — restricted airflow is a common reason for long drying times. If the dryer still runs cool or slow, a technician can check the heating and airflow components.
Strange noises and not starting
New noises usually mean something inside has worn or shifted. If the dryer will not start, confirm the door is closed and the power supply is on. Stop using a dryer that smells like burning and book a diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my dryer not heating?
It can be related to airflow, heating or control components. A technician needs to inspect the dryer to confirm the cause.
Why is my dryer taking too long to dry?
Restricted airflow from a full lint filter or blocked vent is common. If cleaning these does not help, book a diagnosis.
